Frequently asked questions

How the simulator works, what its numbers mean, and how plans and billing work. Can't find it here? The glossary defines the DFS terms, and the guides go deeper on strategy.

Using the simulator

What does a lineup's simulated ROI mean?

It is the average return on the entry fee across every simulated slate: each run, your lineup's score is placed against a modelled field of opposing lineups and paid by the contest's payout table, and ROI is the mean of those payouts minus the fee, divided by the fee. +20% means the lineup returned $1.20 per $1 entered on average across the simulations; it is not a promise about one contest. In tournaments the modelled field can only price finishes down to a certain depth and is not yet fitted to real contests, so use the figure to compare lineups rather than as a forecast. Where a result comes out above what strong tournament players actually earn, the site hides the absolute ROI and shows ranks instead.

Why do most simulated lineups show a negative ROI?

Because most real DFS entries lose money. The site keeps a share of every entry fee as its rake, so the prize pool is smaller than the fees paid in and the average entry returns less than it cost. A top-heavy tournament also pays only a small share of the field. A negative ROI is the simulator being honest about that; compare lineups with each other, and treat the ones above zero as the candidates worth a closer look.

How are floor and ceiling defined?

For our own projections, the floor is the 10th percentile of the player's simulated fantasy points and the ceiling is the 90th: about one game in ten should land below the floor and one in ten above the ceiling. The accuracy page checks both tails separately against real box scores, every week.

How does late swap work on a slate?

DraftKings and FanDuel let you change players in a lineup until each player's own game starts. On sports with late swap, a slate stays open here until its last game begins: the slate page marks the games that have locked, keeps players in started games fixed, and re-runs simulations for the games still to come. Lineups from an uploaded entries file can be swapped from the Entry Manager.

Which sports have slates I can open today?

The sports page lists every slate open right now, across the 22 sports we support on DraftKings, FanDuel and Yahoo. Slates appear once the site posts the contest's salaries, typically by the morning of the first game, and leave the list once they can no longer be entered or swapped. A sport out of season shows no slates until it returns.

How accurate are the projections?

We publish it, failures included. Each week the projections the site actually showed at lock are scored against the final box scores (average miss, within-slate rank correlation and floor/ceiling coverage by sport), and every model is also checked on games it never saw before it ships. Where we measure projected ownership against real contest standings, that is published too.

Where can I look up a DFS term like leverage or chalk?

The DFS glossary defines the vocabulary the site and its strategy guides use, from GPP and cash games to leverage, chalk, stacking and bring-backs.

Plans and billing

How much does DFS Degen cost?

A free account costs nothing and unlocks the free slate of the day. Three paid plans: Basic at $19.99/month, Pro at $49.99/month, and Elite at $99.99/month. Annual billing saves roughly 20% — $192, $480, and $960 per year respectively. All plans bill through Stripe and can be cancelled anytime from your account page.

What's the difference between Pro and Elite?

Pro covers 4 sports of your choice, DraftKings + FanDuel, correlated Monte Carlo, and up to 25,000 iterations per run. Elite unlocks all 22 sports with no switching cooldown, adds Yahoo, all four simulation models (including genetic search and bootstrap), up to 100,000 iterations per run, and CSV projection upload.

What does Basic actually get me?

One sport of your choice on DraftKings — every salary-cap slate type your chosen sport supports (main, showdown, tiers, single-stat). Monte Carlo engine, lineup builder, portfolio analysis, up to 500 lineups per run. Draft slates (snake, best ball, snake showdown) are Pro+. You also lose FanDuel/Yahoo, correlated MC, stacking rules, exposure caps, and Discord on Basic — but everything in the core salary-cap simulation loop is included.

What's the difference between the lineup CSV and the projection CSV?

They go in opposite directions. The lineup CSV is your simulated lineups in the site's own upload format, ready to enter on DraftKings, FanDuel or Yahoo. The projection CSV is the whole slate in one file: every player's projection, floor, ceiling, standard deviation, play probability, injury and starter status, game start and the site's own player ID, so another optimizer can import it without matching names. Every paid plan exports projections for the sites it includes (Basic: DraftKings; Pro: DraftKings and FanDuel; Elite: all three), and a free account can export the free slate of the day. Elite's CSV projection upload is the reverse: your own numbers in.

Can I change which sports I've picked?

Yes — Basic and Pro users can change their sport selection once every 30 days from the account page. Elite includes every sport, so there's nothing to switch.

Why do I have to make two choices before a sim runs?

So the lineups start from your read of the slate, not a copy of ours: every run needs at least two settings of your own. Any of them counts: your own number in the Proj column (or a CSV on Elite), a lock or block, a stack or an exposure cap. The slate page shows this as step 1 next to the Run Sims button and counts your choices as you go.

Is there a free plan or a free trial?

Visitors see a limited preview of each slate. A free account (no card) unlocks the free slate of the day in full. Paid plans unlock every slate and simulations. Simulations and lineup building come with a paid plan. Occasional promo links include a free trial of a paid plan (card required, billed automatically when it ends). You can cancel anytime and keep access through the end of the billing period.

How do I cancel my subscription?

From your account page, open the billing portal (powered by Stripe) and cancel with two clicks. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you've paid for — no cancellation fees.

Which DFS sites are supported?

DraftKings, FanDuel and Yahoo salary and CSV formats are supported. Slates are added as they are posted, so which sites have a slate up varies by day. By plan: DraftKings on every plan, for every sport. FanDuel from Pro covering NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, WNBA, college football, golf, MMA, NASCAR, and soccer — plus FanDuel snake drafts for NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL. Yahoo on Elite covering NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, golf, and soccer. Each site's scoring system is encoded separately, so switching sites recalculates projections rather than reusing DraftKings numbers.
