Cash vs GPP application

Cash games: HCA slightly favors home players in projection ties. Otherwise, take the highest projection.

GPPs: HCA can create leverage. If two players project similarly and one is home while the other is road-but-more-owned, the home player's slight edge + potential ownership discount is a modest leverage play.

Common mistakes

Ignoring HCA entirely

Some sharp NBA DFS players systematically undervalue HCA because they focus on usage rate + minutes and assume Vegas has priced HCA in. Vegas has priced HCA into the team spread; that doesn't mean individual DFS projections have captured every 4-6% home-boost effect.

Over-weighting HCA

On the other side, some players over-weight home/road as a primary sort. HCA is a 4-6% projection modifier, not a 25% one. Always let raw projection lead.

Not adjusting for team-specific HCA

Denver at home is a bigger boost than Sacramento at home. Applying flat HCA across all teams misses the variance.
