Understanding the WNBA HCA is one of the clean edges available in a sport with less analytical coverage than the NBA.

Roster depth

Common WNBA HCA mistakes
Ignoring HCA because "WNBA is smaller"
The signal is actually LARGER in WNBA than in NBA. Casual entrants who assume WNBA is just "small NBA" miss this.
Not adjusting for team-specific variance
Las Vegas home is a bigger boost than Dallas home. Applying flat HCA across all teams misses the variance.
Over-weighting HCA on projections that already include it
Some projection services already bake HCA into their published projections. Double-applying HCA on top of a projection that already accounts for it creates double-counted edge. Verify with your projection source.
Construction checklist
- Note each player's home/road status for the slate.
- Apply 5-8% home projection boost as a tiebreaker.
- Adjust for team-specific HCA (Las Vegas home = bigger boost, Dallas home = smaller).
- For GPPs, leverage lower-owned home players against higher-owned road players at similar projections.
- Don't override a 3+ DK point projection gap based on HCA alone.
